Executive Director

Tami has vast experience in the mental health industry. She began working at The Center in 2008 and has been in the industry since 1999. Tami obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, an Associate of Science degree, and graduated from Incompass Michigan’s Leadership Academy!

Tami’s passion is to advocate for those that are unable to advocate for themselves.

Patty Byrd

Director of Operations

Patty is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in finance and business. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and her career journey has been marked by significant achievements and contributions to the field. In 2007, she joined the Center, formerly known as Gateway, in Berrien Springs as the Director of Finance to make a difference in the lives of others. In 2012, Patty took on a new challenge as the Controller at Twixwood Nursery, LLC. Her strategic financial oversight and leadership skills contributed to the company's financial stability and growth during her time there. As of September 2023, Patty is thrilled to be back at the Center and looks forward to helping lead the new team to even greater success and growth. She greatly values the collaborative and supportive work environment at the Center, where the staff feels like a close-knit family.

In her free time, Patty and her husband are passionate about giving back to the community. They frequently embark on mission trips to assist those in need, embodying the principle that "Teamwork makes the dream work!"

Teresa Hance

Director of Services

Teresa is very excited about her role as the Director of Services at The Center for Growth and Independence. She has worked in Health and Human Services for over thirty years. Teresa has always had a passion to help people in her community and that is what brought her to TCGI. She believes there are good people in the world and staying humble and kind helps her stay positive through life.

Jenny Edge

Office Manager

Jenny brings over 20 years of dedicated experience in providing comprehensive administrative support to management and service teams. With a robust background in the Mortgage field, including 3+ years of hands-on experience, and an additional 5 years serving as a Loan Officer for a local Native Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Jenny possesses a diverse skill set that spans both conventional and specialized financial sectors.

Her track record includes creating organized, efficient, and user-friendly workplace environments, demonstrating a keen ability to leverage her experience and knowledge for the benefit of her teams. Jenny's commitment to excellence aligns seamlessly with the objective of delivering exceptional service to clients.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jenny holds a personal goal close to her heart – supporting her son's journey towards self-sufficiency and independence. This dual commitment to professional excellence and personal growth exemplifies Jenny's holistic approach to fostering success.
